Context. A global consumer-goods manufacturer ran an established, on-premises Profisee master-data implementation that had served the business well — but the ground had shifted beneath it. The company operated across European and U.S. markets whose data-protection and product-compliance regimes don't merely differ; they can directly conflict, so a single mastering approach has to satisfy both without compromising either. At the same time, new data feeds were arriving faster than the existing object model could comfortably absorb, accumulating workarounds and technical debt, and leadership had set its sights on a cloud future. The mandate was modernization on a living, business-critical system — improving it in flight, without the luxury of a clean rebuild or a pause in operations.

The Stakes. In master data management, the master record is the single point everything else trusts. When it is wrong — or merely ambiguous across regulatory regimes — the error doesn't stay contained; it propagates into every report, integration, and downstream decision. For a manufacturer operating on two continents, that can mean compliance exposure in both at once. The Challenge. Turn an aging Profisee implementation into enterprise-wide data mastering that satisfies conflicting European and American regulatory regimes, integrates new data sources quickly, minimizes technical debt, and lays a clean foundation for an eventual cloud migration — all while keeping the existing system running.

Our Approach.

• Understand before changing. We built metadata-driven documentation queries to map the existing Profisee model deeply and accurately, then reviewed and documented current utilization to produce a blueprint of cloud needs — including an expected growth plan. Modernizing a live system safely starts with understanding it precisely, not assuming.
• A regulation-aware migration plan. We designed a separation-and-migration plan for regulatory-compliant, enterprise-wide mastering that could serve disparate European and American requirements from a single architecture.
• A faster, cleaner model. We implemented a new product model on the existing architecture — backed by an MS SQL-centric custom framework — so new data feeds could be integrated rapidly, and we modified and deployed changes to the Profisee model, match/merge procedures, and synonym lists as business needs evolved, deliberately minimizing technical debt.
• Cloud and governance support. We provided architectural support for a hybrid cloud migration to Snowflake using Matillion and Azure Data Foundation, and gave data-management guidance to the client's newly formed Data Governance Office.
• Documentation throughout. We produced substantial documentation of the implementation paradigm, goals, and structure so the client's own team could own it.

The Outcome. A modernized, regulation-aware MDM foundation that absorbs new data feeds quickly, carries less technical debt, and has a documented blueprint and growth plan for its move to the cloud.
